Young Engineers Australia
Briefly describe your workplace and business.
Young Engineers Australia (Victoria) is a professional association with up to 8,000 members. We organise technical seminars, social events and personal development opportunities for engineers in Victoria.
What have you done to reduce your CO2 emissions?
We have implemented a strategy to measure emissions from activities, transportation, food consumption, energy consumption and waste generation. With the data we've collected, we will reduce emission based on:
- selection of fresh local foods for events;
- selection of event venues close to public transport;
- sourcing green electricity; and
- communicating the results of emissions tracking to members to increase awareness of how members can reduce their own climate footprint.
How has your organisation worked together to reduce carbon emissions?
The Victoria Division plan to roll out our strategy to divisions across Australia as well as our parent national committee, Engineers Australia.
What plans do you have for future reductions?
We plan to launch a car pooling register to encourage members to car pool to events where public transport is not an option, reducing emissions from private transport use.
Why have you become Climate Positive?
Our organisation feel we need to act on Climate Change, as a representative of young engineers in Victoria and as members of a wider community. Becoming Climate Positive is a way to reduce our own impact on the natural environment, and allows us to communicate the importance of acting on climate change to our members and others.
