China to subsidise solar power projects
BEIJING, July 23 - China's government says it will pay up to 70 per cent of the price of new solar power systems in an effort to speed up development of clean energy industries.The Finance Ministry's announcement on Tuesday comes as Beijing tries to reduce China's surging demand for imported oil and gas and create companies that cash in on growing global demand for clean energy technology.
The subsidies are meant to develop the solar industry as a new source of economic growth for the country, the ministry said.
Victoria proving the dirtiest state

July 21, 2009VICTORIA is the least climate-friendly state - home to three of Australia's four dirtiest power stations and none of the 12 biggest renewable energy plants.
An analysis by the Climate Group, an international think-tank, found less than 2 per cent of electricity generated in Victoria last year was from clean sources. Brown coal accounted for 94 per cent of electricity, with gas making up the other 4 per cent.
UK 'must plan' for warmer future
The UK needs to plan now for a future that will be hotter and bring greater extremes of flood and drought, says Environment Secretary Hilary Benn.Launching the UK Climate Projections 2009 report (UKCP09), Mr Benn told MPs that the UK climate will change even with a global deal on emissions.
By 2080, London will be between 2C and 6C hotter than it is now, he said.
