Carbon benefits
Climate Positive carefully selects sites where tall, high-carbon-yield forests can be grown. Our forests are biodiverse and are located alongside existing habitat and conservation corridors.
Our Going Positive planting sites are designed to begin addressing historical carbon debt, that is, they will act as a carbon sink and absorb carbon dioxide that has already been released into the atmosphere.
Climate Positive does not sell carbon credits from Going Positive planting sites.
What happens to the carbon?
Legal ownership of the carbon is with Climate Positive as Trustee for the Trust, through a Forest Property Agreement. Beneficial ownership of the carbon is with the Trust.
If the Trust is wound up the Trust Deed governing Climate Positive provides that if on the winding up of Climate Positive any property remains after the satisfaction of all its debts and liabilities, Climate Positive must give and transfer the property to a similar not for profit environmental organisation. The term 'property' is broad enough to encompass the carbon sequestered by the Climate Positive forests.
Since the carbon is subject to a trust, the Trustee would be obliged to transfer the property held on trust to a similar environmental organisation. Any other transfer of the property held on trust would be a breach of the Trust Deed.
