Beyond carbon neutrality
Increasingly, organisations are becoming carbon neutral - but it's leading organisations which are going further. Climate Positive can take your business beyond carbon neutral through investments in emissions reduction projects which also generate renewable energy, plus additional forest restoration.
Five steps for global warming best practice
Step one: Understand what global warming means to your business
Global warming represents many risks and opportunities for businesses of all sizes. Understanding the risks specific to your industry, along with the science and solutions is a critical first step.
Step two: Measure the emissions produced
Quantify the carbon emissions from your organisation with either the small business calculator or contact us directly for a complete audit.
This figure illustrates the guidelines produced by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development on emissions management.
Step three: Reduce emissions as much as possible
Reducing emissions is critical to the success of any carbon neutral program. Small businesses which are measuring their emissions with Climate Positive receive concise and tailored reduction strategies, which can be tracked over time.
Step four: Offset the projects with permanent outcomes
Not all carbon offsets programs are the same. Climate Positive offsets with projects which meet the following criteria:
- Permanent emission reductions
- Real projects which have already achieved the reductions, not future potential reductions
- Measurable and certain outcomes
- Building renewable energy capacity
- Verified by third parties
If your organisation has independently undertaken an emissions assessment, contact us to discuss our accredited offsets. Climate Positive provides a certificate, stickers and a web page for partners to communicate and qualify how emissions have been measured, reduced and offset.
Step five: Going Positive and restoring forests
The atmosphere has higher concentrations of greenhouse gases now than we have seen for 800,000 years, due to the burning of fossil fuels. We engage with partners to go beyond carbon neutral and additionally restore forests on cleared lands to start dealing with historical carbon debt. Contact us to join us and get your hands dirty for the climate.
Supporting claims of carbon neutrality
Environmental claims need to be a specific, substantive and supported by evidence. Climate Positive seeks to protect the organisations which partner to measure, reduce and offset emissions with us. Claims of carbon neutrality should be accompanied with information clarifying what has been measured, what has been reduced and how it has been offset.
Partners can elect to have a page on the Climate Positive site to link through to qualify and communicate how carbon is being managed within the organisation.
